Meet Allington “Gumption” Creque

Allington “Gumption” Creque is a powerful example of resilience, determination, and belief in yourself.

A native of Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands, Gumption grew up facing the challenges of living with dyslexia. But he refused to let those challenges define or limit him. By the age of 29, he had a clear dream: to own his own business. The journey, however, was anything but easy.

Between 2011 and April 2012, he approached numerous banks seeking a loan. One by one, he was turned down. Many people would have stopped there. Many would have taken rejection as a final answer. He didn’t.

On October 19, 2012, after persistent effort and unwavering belief in his vision, Gumption became the first person to receive a loan from Sir Richard Branson through the Branson Centre of Entrepreneurship Caribbean. That opportunity helped him launch and grow his business in Virgin Gorda.

Why Gumption’s Story Matters
-
Rejection is not the end, it’s part of the process.
-
Your circumstances do not define your potential.
-
Persistence creates opportunity.
-
Belief in yourself must be stronger than other people’s doubt.

Gumption reminds us that success often comes after repeated “no’s.” If he had stopped after the fifth, tenth, or twentieth rejection, his story would be very different. His journey is proof that resilience isn’t just about surviving setbacks, it’s about using them as fuel to move forward.
